Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Scheduler to join our team at Cape Cod Hospital.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To schedule appointments, register patients in the computer system and comply with insurance requirements. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for scheduling, adhering to department standards. 

2.     Act as a liaison for and receives all calls from physician offices.

 

  1. Checks and updates schedules for multiple locations on a daily basis.

  1. Confirms appointments within 24 hours prior to appointment.

 

  1. Produces and distributes necessary paperwork (such as orders). Reviews all patient information and retrieves appropriate notes from physician office.

 

  1. Answer routine inquiries and telephone calls from patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel in a courteous manner within a reasonable amount of time.

 

7.     Maintains appropriate department records and filing system to ensure efficient retrieval of information. Photocopy/fax information as needed and checks to make sure all reports are available for ongoing care.

 

  1. Request confirmation letters and reports via information system as needed.

 

  1. Responsible for timely notification to patients of appointment time and proper visit instructions.

 

  1. Pre-register patients in the electronic patient registration system.

 

  1. Verify insurance referrals for Diabetes Center.

  1. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and center matters in accordance to HIPAA regulations.

 

  1. Maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests.

14.  Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful passage of basic Medical Terminology course OR successful passage of the CCH Medical Terminology exam. 
  • Keyboarding skills at 30 WPM as demonstrated by successful passage of a timed test.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in patient registration, admitting, nurse's aide, medical secretary, medical receptionist, or similar position.
