Hours: 80PP, 5a-1p, 5:30a-1:30p, 7a-3p, occ weekends, occ holidays

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Processes histopathology specimens, including surgical and cytology specimens for the microscopic examination. 

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Is courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
  2. Processes, embeds, cuts, mounts, and stains patient tissue samples.
  3. Prepares slides, stains, reagents, and solutions.
  4. Performs both routine and special staining procedures.
  5. Performs and documents both routine, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments.
  6. Practices efficient and economical use of laboratory supplies; checks inventory, orders and restocks supplies.
  7. Provides product evaluations and prepares procedures.
  8. Maintains section according to accreditation standards.  
  9. Handles and disposes of biological and hazardous materials and wastes properly.
  10. Performs duties assigned to Pathology Technician as needed.
  11. Must wear facility provided identification badge.
  12. Perform other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Histologic Technician (Grade 9B)

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English at the level of a high school graduate.
  • HT (ASCP) certification OR Successful completion of a NACCLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years OR MLT (ASCP) or equivalent - must become HT (ASCP) certified within 24 months of hire

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: Histologic Technologist (Grade 10BM)

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • HTL ASCP Eligible (as defined by ASCP).
  • Must take and pass HTL (ASCP) exam within 24 months.
