Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team at Cape Cod Human Services.

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

Under the direction of the department supervisor or designee, provide the highest standards of clinical support to the physician practice.  Delivers excellent customer service to patients through participation in a medical care team. 

Demonstrates a high level of competence with clerical support.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  1. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects Cape Cod Healthcare's commitment to CARES:  compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service.

2.     Manages patient flow for clinicians.  Determines urgency and priority of walk in and add on patients, patient consults, etc.  Manages clinicians' daily schedules to expedite care and maximize clinical time.  Coordinates the practice when clinicians are not available, ensuring that telephone calls are triaged appropriately and clinicians receive necessary information.

  1. Monitors practice issues and problems and identify and solve concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines.  Advocates for patients, as appropriate. Assists in resolving patients' concerns.
  2. Greets and escorts patients to treatment offices.  Obtains relevant information and takes vital signs: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, and respirations. Inputs pertinent clinical information into medical record.
  3. Assists clinicians with clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department.  May advise patient of preparation required for exam or additional testing specific to the department and keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays and other relevant information.
  4. Ensures that exam rooms are prepared and/or maintained.  Cleans and/or maintains supplies and equipment.
  5. Provides clerical/office support as necessary.
  6. Order all medical supplies and maintain inventory.
  7. Retrieve calls including requests for prescriptions and complete refills as needed.
  8.   Responds to patient calls as directed by prescriber.
  9. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested by manager.

 

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

 

Education:  High school graduate or equivalent.  Associate's Degree in medical assisting or graduate of certificate program or LPN

Skills and Experience:  Minimum of two years prior experience in a clinical setting.  Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, computer, and organizational skills required. 

Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
