Come join our hard-working, mission-driven clinical team in providing high-quality care to the mid-upper Cape community! Medical Scribes are a critical part of this team, taking the documentation burden off providers so they can focus their attention where it belongs: on the patient. As part of the experience, scribes will work closely with their assigned provider(s) and will have a chance to learn about and experience clinical care with a wide spectrum of patients.
The Medical Scribe supports the work of our care teams by entering data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Duties include but are not limited to: chart in real-time as the provider assesses and examines the patient; document history, physical exam, assessment and plan, results, procedures, treatment, and physician consultations; record provider-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient follow-up; locate and obtain past medical histories, previous charts, past results and studies; transcribe ancillary test results and their interpretations; check on the progress of labs, imaging studies, and other patient data; retrieve and display current and past EKG's and imaging films (e.g. X-rays) for the provider to review and record provider’s interpretation; understand basic diagnosis documentation requirements; comply with all national and local PHI laws including in HIPAA and HITECH; comply with all facility, department, company policies and procedures; and perform a variety of other non-clinical tasks as assigned. This position is located at the Harbor Community Health Center-Hyannis in Hyannis, MA.



Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older, Associates Degree in health science, science, biology, or related field, knowledge of medical terminology and/or demonstrated ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies and techniques taught and used on the job, exceptional written, verbal and active listening skills, Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications, minimum 50 net word per minute, ability to accurately spell and use proper grammar, ability to accurately and quickly record information, excellent judgement and understanding of ethical concerns related to patient care, excellent organizational skills and ability to track tasks, professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families. 

Substitutions for Skills, Experience and Education: Certified Medical Scribe Specialist from the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists and 2 years of experience as a scribe, Medical Assisting Certification from an accredited program and two years of experience as a Medical Assistant can be substituted for the Associates Degree, completion of two full years of college (must provide transcripts) can be substituted for the Associate's degree. 

Preferred Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in health sciences or related field, Bilingual (Vietnamese/English, Spanish/English, Portuguese/English), experience working with Electronic Health Records/Practice Management Systems, 1 or more years of experience working in healthcare setting.
