Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated PACS Administrator to join our team at Cape Cod Hospital.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for the deployment, support and configuration of the PACS across CCHC. Works closely with other system departmental personnel, managers and supervisors to ensure the digital image data transfer into the PACS, RIS validation and exceptions handling.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Responsible for day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, and pre-fetching and other related activities. Works closely with unit operations managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling.

2.     Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific PACS related operational problems.  Manages issues lists with vendors ensuring timely closure.    

3.     Leads training of new staff on use of PACS application, and training of existing staff based on system upgrades.

4.     Responsible for leading system maintenance, documentation, policy development, and trouble-shooting of PACS system.

5.     Works closely with the Directors of Radiology and Chief Techs in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures. Reviews feedback from customers, compiles and analyzes support data, and recommends procedural and educational changes as appropriate.

6.     Works closely with Radiology's quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes.

7.     Collaborates with IT staff in support and maintenance of PACS system.

8.     Oversees activities of vendors in support and maintenance of PACS system.  Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of support and installation of new PACS components.

9.     Act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within CCHC.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Maintain System Configuration and Workflow

a)     Assures proper configuration of equipment.

b)    Knows when and how to make changes to system or User accounts as needed or requested.

c)     Assigns privileges to personnel as per workflow needs.

d)    Assures workflow program is established, followed and maintained.  Constantly looks for opportunities to optimize workflow.

e)     Establish/enforce a system component maintenance schedule for cleaning and service.

f)     Takes ownership for trouble-shooting problems.  Leverages IT and vendor resources optimally.

g)    Fix broken studies.

h)     Provide functional support for PACS, RIS, dictation and other imaging systems

i)      Provides single point of contact to PACS vendor

j)      Manage trouble ticket and change request processes with vendor

k)     Establishes, implements, and manages imaging policies and procedures.

l)      Establishes, executes, and manages process for  "printing" film and CDs for patients to take outside of CCHC

m)   Provides regular feedback on system status to key executives

 

2.     Maintain the Patient and Image Database

a)     Ensures daily database back ups are successful.

b)    Performs weekly database checks (e.g. physical and logical).

c)     Maintains daily/weekly/monthly backups in a safe place.

d)    Performs corrections, deletions, as needed to patient folders.

e)     Troubleshoots and performs backups prior to any service needs.

 

3.     Technical Infrastructure Coordination and Planning

a)     Performs daily system checks to ensure system function.

b)    Checks daily for disk space availability for writing of images onto disk.

c)     Trouble-shoots as necessary.

d)    Capacity planning.

e)     Responsible for creating and managing downtime plans.

 

4.     Trains Clinical and Administrative Staff

a)     Trains new hires on PACS system and workflow.

b)    Provides formal and informal refresher training as needed.

c)     Coordinates vendor training as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

·         BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or an equivalent amount of related experience and education that demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities to perform this job.

·         Three to five years PACS Administration experience.
