Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Sr. Database Administrator to join our team at Cape Cod Hospital.

The Information Systems Senior Database Administrator (DBA) functions across all Cape Cod Healthcare affiliates responsible for the performance, integrity and security of databases. They will also be involved in the planning and development of the databases, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.



  1. Manage and maintain all production and non-production databases, as required.  Design, implement and maintain logical and physical databases and coordinate database development as part of a project team, applying knowledge of database design standards and database management system.  Responsible for standards and design of database maintenance, access and security administration.
  2. Work with IT Leadership to develop, maintain and ensure a working Data Governance Strategy
  3. Maintain database systems, with attention to detail and Information Security Policies.
  4. Primary responsibilities include working with customers to help analyzing and define needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems, and developing technical, structural and organizational specifications, in addition to systems integration, which may include client/servers, mainframes, etc.
  5. Participate in projects, which require creating and/or modifying databases to the customer's specifications, testing, debugging and installing these modifications once approved, and providing technical and training assistance to customers and subordinates.
  6. Plan, schedule and participate in the installation of software and databases. Participate in planning and executing database migrations, application software upgrades/migrations.
  7. Ensure proper backups, development of the recovery plan and communicates progress to the appropriate personnel.
  8. Follows the established standards for writing and documenting projects and databases.  Contributes to the development of new standards and/or the modification of existing standards.
  9. Creates/maintains databases making changes to database, such as defining creating revising and controlling database. Determines and enters changes to data dictionary descriptions, including type, structure and intended use of data within system.
  10. Proactively monitors database space and utilization on servers.  Works to minimize downtime impact on users through accurate planning of scheduled downtimes and quick problem resolution for unscheduled downtimes. Monitors system performance during daytime on-call.  Ensure system stability and data integrity after data recovery process has been completed. 
  11. Coordinates user testing in the user community of new applications or upgrades.  Provides level 2 and 3 support for incidents by determining appropriate solutions to problems including software, hardware, network, and system integration requirements.  Follows Incident Management process.
  12. Follows Change Control process.  Perform distribution of upgrades, patches or fixes.  Monitor and review quality and effectiveness.              
  13.                         Recommends to management needed software and hardware in order to complete projects. Creates and maintains project plans using department approved project management software. Monitors and adjusts project timelines and alerts management, staff, and vendors as necessary to delays. Leads projects of all sizes including distributing tasks to project resources and providing guidance as needed.
  14. Assists in the cross-training of other team members so tasks can be completed during the employee's absence, including documentation of general aspects of the job.  May coach more junior technical staff.
  15. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the information system's mission. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
  16. Work closely with server teams , regarding infrastructure design and support (e.g., Clustering, etc)
  17. Perform on-call duties relating the database issues.
  18. Assume other duties as directed.


·       Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or an equivalent  amount of related experience and education obtained that demonstrated the necessary skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position

·       Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE),  Data Platform or Business Intelligence, IBM Certified Database Administrator or Oracle Database Certification preferred

·       Three to five years' experience in the installation of health care systems.

·       Demonstrated written and oral communications and educational skills

·       Ability to present design concepts and system functions in an understandable, logical and concise manner

·       Proven ability to coordinate and lead projects through completion

·       Demonstrated project management skills to participate in multiple complex projects simultaneously

·       Interpersonal skills necessary to conduct training classes, project meetings, and seminars with all levels of the organization
