PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To assist the Director of Sterile Processing in the supervision of CCH & FH staff and operations primarily on the evening shift. To perform any and all required tasks necessary to fulfill the obligations of SPD to Cape Cod Healthcare Surgical Services, all CCHC clinical units and CCHC physician offices.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality assurance program, Safety, Environmental and Infection control standards.

 

  1. Assists in planning, organizing, and supervising the activities of the CCH & FH S.P.D. department.

 

  1. Assists in the training/orienting and assigning of department staff, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.

 

  1. Ensures department compliance with all current guidelines and directives from JCAHO, DPH and OSHA.

 

  1. Provides a resource for information pertaining to all S.P.D. related needs.  Provides input required for appropriate purchasing decisions, for equipment and instrumentation.

 

  1. Identifies in conjunction with staff input, new ideas, solutions or directions to improve the quality of customer service and patient care.

 

  1. Assists Director with coordinating Central Processing services with Surgical Services, nursing units and other departments, in order to provide services promptly and efficiently.  Assists with sterilization, case cart preparation, assembly and storage of medical supplies and equipment.  Maintains inventory of supplies and instruments for use in Surgical Services and other nursing units.

 

  1. Arrange adequate space requirements for storage of products and modifies distribution techniques and practices as required.

 

  1. Collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.

 

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

 

  1. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned.

 

  1. Works closely with Inventory Control/Systems Manager, Director, MM Operations as well as MM Lead Dispatcher to ensure optimal distribution of supplies and equipment to SPD.

 

  1. Must be courteous to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING   

Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and education in SPD.

 

Minimum of 3 yrs. supervisory and management experience in related Central Services work, or previous work experience in surgery as a nurse or surgical technologist for a minimum of 3 yrs.

 

Completion of a formal Central Service Technology course or Certification preferred.

 

Familiarity with MS Office software, computerized SPD or inventory management systems and/or prior experience with Meditech/Picis preferred.
